Magick Tools

To practice the craft and perform your rituals you may want to collect at least some of these tools. You can find them most any place, yard sales, goodwill, antique and junk shops, flea markets, and even pawn shops or you can order from or go to occult suppliers. Though some may be difficult to find, your ritual tools are well worth any efforts to find them. I myself love my tools and always use them in my workings but if you feel comfortable with that go for it, if not don't. You chose.

The Broom: Witches use brooms in magic and ritual. This tool is sacred to both the Goddess and God. The broom is used for lightly sweeping the area (indoors or out) where ever rituals are being done. The sweeping is a physical cleansing, to get reed of the negativity that can build up. It purifies the area to allow smoother workings. The broom is linked to the element of WATER.. If you wish to make your magic broom, get an ash staff, birch twigs and willow binding.

The Wand: Wands are used in rituals as an instrument of invocation. The Goddess and God may be called to watch the working with some words and an uplifted wand. It can also be used to direct energy, to draw magical symbols or a circle on the ground, or even to stir brew in a cauldron. The wand represents the element of AIR.. Is sacred to the Gods. Woods that can be used are willow, elder, oak, hazel, cherry. If your walking through the woods one day and you see a branch and you feel like you have to have it by all means use it. If you like put some symbols on it. But also remember to thank the tree for what you take or leave something as an offering for it.

The Censer: Censers are used to burn your incense in. It can be a swinging metal one or a simple seashell. If you want to make one, any bowl or cup filled half way with sand or salt will do nicely. To some of the wicca, the censer represents the element of AIR. It is often placed before the images of the Deities on the alter, if any.

The Cauldron: Is an ancient vessel of cooking and brew making. The cauldron is the container in which magical transformations occur. The Wicca see the cauldron as a symbol of the Goddess, the manifested essence of femininity and fertility. It is also symbolic of the element of WATER, reincarnation, immortality and inspiration.

The Athame: The magic knife is used in rites but only to direct the energy raised during rites and spells. It isn't used for cutting purposes in Wicca. The knife is often dull, usually double-edged with a black handle, black absorbs power. It is linked to the element of FIRE. Its phallic nature links it with the God.

The Bolline: The white-handled knife is simply a practical, working knife. It is used to cut wands or sacred herbs, inscribe symbols onto candles or on wood, clay, or wax and in cutting cords for use in magic.

Crystal Sphere: In Wiccan ritual, the crystal is sometimes placed on the alter to represent the Goddess. The sphere may be used to receive messages from the Gods, or to store energy raised in ritual. Periodic exposure to moonlight, or rubbing the crystal with fresh mugwort, will increase its ability to spark our psychic powers. It may be the center of Full Moon rituals.

The Cup: The cup is simply used to hold water or the ritual beverage imbibed during the rite. It symbolizes the Goddess and fertility, and is related to the element of WATER..

The Pentacle: The pentacle is usually a flat piece of brass, gold, silver, wood, wax or clay, inscribed with certain symbols. The most common, and the only one you really need is the pentagram, the five - pointed star. It is an instrument of protection, or a tool to evoke spirits. It represents the element of Earth and is a convenient tool upon which to place amulets, charms or other objects to be ritually consecrated. And sometimes used to summon the Gods and Goddesses.

The Bell: This is a ritual interment of incredible antiquity. Ringing a bell unleashes vibrations which have powerful effects according to its volume, tone and material of construction. Is used to invoke the Goddess in ritual. I is also rung to ward off evil spells and spirits, to halt storms, or to evoke good energies. Bells are sometimes rung in ritual to mark various sections and to signal a spell's beginning or end.

The Book of Shadows: This is a sort of workbook used be Wiccans and Witches containing invocations, ritual patterns, spells, rules governing magic and so on. Some are passed from one wiccan to another. The Book of Shadows is for your own personal use if you are a solitary practitioner, it holds your own personal spells and other things you need for rituals.

The Alter: This is the heart of power.  You are unique, so should be your Alter.   The physical construction of you alter is your choice, you can use coffee tables, dressers, cinder blocks with 2 planks, desks, etc....   The alter can be permanent or portable and any size, this is up to you, what ever is comfortable for you.  Your table should however be long enough for you to work on and put out your tools, but not crowded or cluttered.   You may want to place your alter  at the north  or east points of the sacred space, however this is not absolutely necessary, again it is what you are comfortable with.  You can also decorate your alter with magical symbols if you like.

The Sacred Space:   This is the space where you will set up your alter and do your workings at.   It can be indoors or outdoors that is up to you.   It should be a private place where you will not be interrupted while doing your workings.   If indoors and you live alone you can put it anyplace, however if you live with others, you may want to use a empty room if you have one or some place where you won't be interrupted.  You may have to work at night when everyone goes to sleep.

The Magical Cabinet:   This is where you will put all your magical things that you use for your workings.     Here is a list of things you may find in a Witches cabinet.
