Practical Candle Burning

candle.gif (3733 bytes)

Candle Magic is very interesting to do and you have fun doing it to. For beginners I think it is great. Because you learn so much and it teaches you to meditate and visualize a little easier, anyway I think so. By burning different candles one can make things happen. Here is some info you may find helpful about candle burning. You can find more in Raymond Buckland's book Practical Candleburning Rituals. But for now here is the info I have for you.

The candles you use may be of any type, It's the color that is important. The most important thing in Candle Burning Is the preparation of the candles themselves. They should be "dressed" before they are used. For more effectiveness this should be done by the practitioner him/herself. Dressing the candle is done with oil. There are a lot of different candle anointing oils on the market with little to between them. Some are colored and therefore should only be used on candles of the same color. I suggest you buy one that is colorless and can be used on any candle. If you can not find any candle-anointing oil then you may use regular olive oil. To dress a candle you anoint it with the oil, rubbing it into the candle from the center towards the end. Always rub the candle in the same direction; from the center out to one end, then from center to the other end. While dressing the candle you should be thinking - concentrating - hard on the subject, problem, question at hand. There are four types of candles used in rituals: Altar candles, Offertory candles, Astral candles, and Day candles.

ALTAR CANDLES:

These are two tall white candles which are always on the altar. They are placed at the two far corners and are always lighted before any of the others.

OFFERTORY CANDLES:

These are the candles in various symbolic colors, dependent upon the work to be done.

ASTRAL CANDLES:

These represent the petitioner(s) and are chosen depending on the person's birth date. A candle of the primary color may be used or you may purchase Astral candles which are made in the two-color combination.

DAY CANDLES:

These may be used in any of the rituals, dependent upon the day of performance. Placed on the right front of the altar.

When lighting it is better to light a taper candle and then light the rest with that one, but light the Alter candles first with the taper. At the close of the ritual you may put out the candles unless the ritual calls for leaving them lit for a sertain amount of time, then you may only put them out with a candle snuffer or pinch them out, never blow them out, this is to me disrespect to the Element of Fire. Also put them out in reverse order to that of lighting them. It is however possible to use candles without dressing them, but far more effective if the candle is dressed, it is up to you. I have given the colors for birth dates - but supposing you don't know the persons birth date in question, for this all you need use is a plane white candle and concentrating on the person as you dress the candle.

Where to start, Hi and welcome, I would like to share some information that I have learned about herbs and what they can do for you. You can use them in teas, spells, and foods of course. Unfortunately their are just so many that I could not name them all but I will list the ones I have found to be very effective in my workings. However, you should experiment and find what ones work for you and use them in various combinations, That?s how I learned . Use your imagination and have fun.

Herbs can be found in many different ways such as oils, ground, whole, resin, rock and my favorite dried. I myself like the dried herbs because they are easy to work with, they are also great cost wise. However if a work calls for a strong smell you may want to use an oil form, but then it?s your working experiment, you will know what works and what does not.
